first step, find pinterest inspiration. I find pinterest the most useful resource when it comes to projects, as I can start to see what aesthetics and styles I want to aim for. I use these photos to help influence what my project will look like.
step two, create my own mood board. After searching through pinterest I start to plan out my final project's look. I make my own mood board off of the ideas found from pinterest and start brainstorming to make the final version.
step three, digitally invent the zine. This part was very lengthly, as the illustrations on fresco were very time consuming. I primarily used adobe fresco on an ipad and a bit of photoshop to create these "ready to print" sketches.
step four, constructing. This step ways the most challenging by far. I decided to hand paint my zine instead of using the ipad. I printed the illustrations onto watercolor paper using a laser printer to help the watercolor not bleed. Watercolor is normally very thick, so finding a paper that would fit through the printer but withstand watercolor was very difficult. I also included my own typography, and did handwriting instead of printing. The scoring also became an issue, as I found out that scoring does not work the best with watercolor paper because it rips easily. I was able to find a solution however, and created a well done zine.
final step, admire the creation. This project was a wonderful learning experience, and although I found some challenges throughout this project, the output was worth it. I enjoyed creating my fanzine and would 100% do this project again.
